What if Patton had been allowed to go after the Russians? (with-out Nukes)
the Allies clearly had the superior Airforce, in terms of Bombers and high alt fighters. but the Russians had good ground support planes. and the Russians had more ground troops and the T-34 was a better tank than the Sherman, but the Pershing was coming on-line along with the british Comet. would we have tried to get the remaining nazi army to fight on our side??
What if??

Quite frankly, I think we would have got our collective asses kicked.

We'd all be dead now.

Re: What if??
The Ruskies would have been cut off from a large percentage of
their armaments supply. The Germans were champing at the bit to turn around
and kill Russians, they would have become instant allies.
Vast armadas of aircraft would have crippled Russian manufacturing.
The fight would not have been easy or quick, but the Russians
would have been worn down, and because of the huge difference
in attitude (Americans not being as homicidal too civillians) the
Russians would have folded in an exponential manner.
As word/rumors of excellent treatment of civillians filtered back to the Russian
cities there would have been an eventual mass surrender.
A long slow victory for the "Allies".

Re: What if??
Happy has most of that spot on...and I will add this to his...The Russians had no meaningful navy compared to ours, to include submarines...which means that our established Atlantic supply routes would not have been vulnerable...we were already set up...only a matter of bridges, roads and industry to be bombed.....from the east Europe and the other side, Japan and maybe china.....Winter of 1945 would have been pure hell for the Russian troops......and yes, we would have lost a lot of our own...it would have been very ugly. What killed Germany, would have killed Russia...loss of experienced troops and loss of manufacturing and the inability to sustain both. Heavy bombers being a huge advantage and playing a decisive role......something the Germans did not have and did not realize when they fought the Russians.....and lost.
Re: What if??
I really don't think we'd side with Germany.
Re: What if??
I dont think you would have had any problem asking and there would have been no point in worrying aboot the quality of the shermans just having allied in help in manufacturing more panthers would have sufficed. And at that stage with the jap navy down the drain a second front to knock out the siberian manufacturing plants would have fecked themCUDA wrote:would we have tried to get the remaining nazi army to fight on our side??
