McCarthy, Lautenberg Planning to Introduce Gun-Control Legislation

House bill to ban high-capacity magazine clips expected this week.

Updated at 3:56 p.m. on January 10.

In the wake of the deadly shooting rampage that targeted Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and killed six others, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-N.Y., and Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., plan to introduce legislation to limit high-capacity clips that allow shooters to fire a large number of rounds without reloading.

Yup...them mental cases really need to be protected from us sane folks....or do they mean the other way around?

Cuz, if'n it's the other way? We gotta do a hell of alot more protecting than that.... Such as:

No hi capacity buses..planes...cars or trains..god forbid one of them mental midgets gets aholt of one of them...

No hi capacity schools, stadiums, hospitals, restaurants, churches or buildings...

Forbid all gatherings of three or more...less'n yer related....cuz we don't want to get all clumped up and agitate them mental miscreants..

I mean shoot (no pun) if'n we're a gonna do the right thing? We gotta go all the way...no whut I mean?

Mercy...a vision has overcome me.......a revelation, in fact....I mean, whut? If'n we found/made a way? To identify and treat these mentally ill folks?

Would that be the "Christian" thing to do? Why can it not be done? Why isn't it being done?

I know some of you folks think? I'm goofier than a run over dog...but, why is it more important to ban something?

Than to care for the mentally ill?

Profundities are welcome......... 8-)

a kernel of truth in there......we do a piss poor job of both treating the mentally ill, as well as allowing those who should be treated to buy weapons. You can, to some extent, point to Reagan as the one who dumped a lot of mentally ill folks out onto the streets, but prior to that, care was poor(barbaric at times).

If everyone qualified had a gun in that crowd there would have
been maybe a couple of dead. But the shooter would have been one of them.

We have a similar issue here in NH. All the inane gun laws passes by the commies
are being reversed. We have Republican domination, veto proof domination.
The Democrats fear privately owned guns, and sadly a good Democrat
got shot in the head as a result. Yep, I would have happily voted for her.
She is an awesome person.

Gun laws only take away the rights of good people.
The bad people are the only beneficiaries of gun laws.

I've heard this argument made a few times over the past few days, and it is nonsense.
First off, when something like this happens, everyone present(save the shooter) states,
"the first thing I did was freeze in disbelief". That's a normal, human response. Anyone who shows up,
armed, at a peaceful gathering, and ANTICIPATES a shooting is as paranoid as they come. Thus,
when all involved are REACTING, what you would have ended up with could well have been a hail of
bullets, killing and injuring even more people. And yes, the shooter might well have been killed, but
he would, I'll bet, have gotten off his 30 rounds before it happened.
Gun laws only take away the rights of good people.
The bad people are the only beneficiaries of gun laws.

"If Guns Are Outlawed Only Outlaws Will Have Guns"
oversimplified stupidity for the truly stupid. Far more nuance should go into gun laws. Frankly, the whole 2nd amendment thing is a crock, the Amendment was never intended to have an armed populace at peaceful gatherings. There were exactly two purposes for that Amendment: 1) To provide for a quick, military response when there was little or no standing army in place, or budgeted for and 2) As discussed by Madison and others, to overthrow any tyranny that develops. Both reasons are obsolete, as we have a military in place, and the second part is ludicrous given the size and scope of the force the government could bring to bear.
Now, I'm NOT in favor of banning all weapons, far from it. Still, certain sensible regulation might be worth consideration, especially in terms of ease of purchase and the availability of weaponry that has NO purpose beyond quick, mass killing of humans(ie: you ain't going squirrel hunting with a Glock 9)

I am so grateful I remembered to log in before clicking any threads.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but they passed the Brady bill banning assault rifles and high capacity magazines AFTER Reagan was shot...with a 22 rimfire revolver (if you dont understand the graphic-mechanical differences, stfu)

I'm already taking bets on how long before they parade the Gifford around in a hospital gown and wheel chair to help promote what ever is coming down the pike in terms of gun control.

it's a shame, Dawg, that you're such a sheltered pussy that you don't allow yourself to read certain posts. If so, I would have liked to have seen your response to what I wrote above. Instead, we get a quick visit before you return to your regularly scheduled circle-jerk. Thanks for adding your two cents, which have been stated more eloquently by others a day or two ago.

Slick you do know Dawg and HH read your posts. they dont want to miss anything that might have been said. AND if they REALLY had you on ignore they wouldn't even waste the bandwith to respond that they have you on ignore :P

That I agree with.
as well as allowing those who should be treated to buy weapons
Says the guy who has no clue about the firearms laws or what gun dealers have to do to sell a gun. If someone is mentally ill, but hasn't been before a judge and declared so then for all intents and purposes he's not mentally ill. If he'd been before a judge it would have shown up on a background check. Every state does them, most are "instant" and take 5-10 minutes. Here in AZ it's the Sheriff's Office who does the looking up of the records and gives the yay or nay.

Now that you've been educated by someone who was a firearms dealer maybe you'll stop regurgitating that bullshit that the mentally ill are "allowed" to buy weapons. Prolly not though, cuz in the past you've given a fuck less about the facts.
You can, to some extent, point to Reagan as the one who dumped a lot of mentally ill folks out onto the streets, but prior to that, care was poor(barbaric at times).
I knew you couldn't resist blaming a Republican president. OK, I'll play your game. Every Democratic president since Reagan hasn't bothered to fix anything Reagan (allegedly) fucked up. In fact, they funded the Federal Prisons with more money so the mentally ill are incarcerated instead of getting the help they need. Then you have the President who was too busy fucking interns when he should have been doing something for the "village". You remember that one, the one that it takes to raise a child.............
