Jeff Immelt charged to "AMP UP " economy

Post by Wullie »

What a guy!!

GE received TARP money without being a bank and GE has cut 18,000 jobs since 2008, and 31,000 since Immelt took over.

It also owns MSNBC aka the obama network and shows commercials with jitterbugging baby elephants.

NOW we're going to sell stuff to INDIA? They are better bunch of rip off artists than the Chinese. What are they going to buy all this 'stuff" with?

Bringing good things to life? Maybe they can figure out what to do with all those planet eating light bulbs with no electricity.

But wait, those are made in Mexico and China nowadays.........

One of the first thoughts I had on this was.........
That's like selling snow cones to Eskimos.....Like, here in the U.S. we
are going to make goods cheaper than China and transport them to
India and sell them.......Cheaper than China, which is next door to India....
Yeah, right...........

actually, GE stock is one of the most commonly held shares among US Senior citizens. And, of late, it's been kicking butt. Happy Seniors=Re-election.

and, you're prepared to suggest someone better, with more expertise, correct?
GE received TARP money without being a bank and GE has cut 18,000 jobs since 2008, and 31,000 since Immelt took over.
I wasn't happy about the mortgage lender bailout, but cutting 18,000 jobs since 2008 for a company of that size is NOTHING, compared to others.
It also owns MSNBC aka the obama network and shows commercials with jitterbugging baby elephants.
um, you do read the news, right? NBC(MSNBC parent co) is being sold(Immelt's plan) to Comcast.
NOW we're going to sell stuff to INDIA? They are better bunch of rip off artists than the Chinese. What are they going to buy all this 'stuff" with?
the money gained by having an economy that survived the worldwide downturn well? What the feck is the possible issue with selling things to other nations? Do you really want the economy of this nation to go completely down the flusher, Wullie? Because, that seems to be the direction you cheerlead for.
Bringing good things to life? Maybe they can figure out what to do with all those planet eating light bulbs with no electricity.
under Immelt, GE has been rapidly developing battery and other alternative electric technologies. In the process, they are ramping up some New York(USA, for the geographically challenged) facilities that employ a fair number of folks and will soon employ far more. This, in case you haven't grasped it, is EXACTLY the sort of cutting-edge technological development that brings new jobs, domestic growth and a freaking future to the US economy. Thus, Jeff Immelt might be as good a choice as can be found to push that sort of innovation nationwide. We a going to go down the flusher, permanently, into third-world status if we do not regain out technological edge. We are not going to have an economy worth squat if we focus resources on twentieth century ideas and mom-and-pop businesses catering to same.
Once again, and damn it gets old, Wullie, you seem to criticize ANY decision made by Obama as wrong. In so doing, you offer NOTHING as an alternative, NOTHING in the way of an economic gameplan. In short, you are long on whining, and short on solutions. A nation full of Wullies would put us about two generations away from eating dirt from sea to shining sea. I'll pass, thanks, and appreciate that the President at least gets the big picture. Whether he, or anyone, can do anything to reverse the slide, is an open question. But, at least, he sees the long term disaster looming. You, apparently, do not.

How far up the ass did the shareholders get it when the "administration" dumped all that GM stock? I guess no voters owned that shit to get upset, BUT the unions got theirs didn't they? They came out O'TAY BUCKWHEAT!!

Why did GE get TARP money? WHY? They aren't a bank. Weren't one either. WUDDUPWIDDAT oh wise one who KNOWS and unnerstans all t'ingz Zocializt?

I'd say a nation full of slicks would have the Chinese owning all the dirt from sea to shining sea and farming it for them whilst getting fed shit (and asking for a second helping with a big smile) in two generations. We're headed that way now.

Slick? Is there anything this administration has done that you didn't like or think "kosher"?

What would that be? NOT closing "Gitmo"?

dude, GM went bankrupt on it's own. As for the Unions, I think any member of the autoworkers would differ with you. On the other hand, I read today that the new GM is about to hire 600-plus workers back to the Flint plant. Still, I think long-term prognosis is dubious at best.

um, ever hear of an entity called GE Capital? They were a mortgage lender, and provider of financial services beyond that. Essentially, they were a bank, with GE corp being the holding company that owned them. In other words, big mortgage lender, large number of financial services, high risk to investors, TARP funds.
Bear in mind, Wullie, that I was less than enthusiastic when Bush started the TARP program, and when Obama's people wrote up the guidelines for ongoing management of it, but after all was said and done, it helped stabilize the liquidity of the nation's economy, and was a great deal for the taxpayers. A fabulous deal, actually, if no money had been given to AIG.

agreed, and it is just the ideas, or lack thereof, that you bring to the table here that would get us to that point quicker. Once again, where the feck are your ideas? Who would you put in charge of developing a long term development strategy? You're coming up really empty here, dude......help us out with your keen insight.
Slick? Is there anything this administration has done that you didn't like or think "kosher"?
yup, they haven't closed down Guantanamo, also they've maintained Shrub's 'Patriot Act' policies that run counter to the Constitution and they did a piss-poor job of explaining how getting a grip on healthcare costs is essential to developing a plan to control the deficit. Those are the big items, and I have a ton of little beefs. Still, the overall picture, as I see it, is that Obama understands two critical issues better than ANY politician on the National scene. First, he understands that ideological stupidity has cost the nation valuable time in addressing critical problems. Second, he understands that the economic problems of the nation are systemic, and can only be addressed with a LONG-TERM change in our infrastucture, industries and a committment to the education of our young people. Until I see someone else with some sort of grip, someone willing to put aside the idiotic left/right bullshit, calling moderates 'communists', attacking the other party without compromise, someone with a long-term plan to get our nation back to being a world-wide industrial force, the man has my vote. Polling tends to show that a whole lot of other people feel the same way.
