dude, GM went bankrupt on it's own. As for the Unions, I think any member of the autoworkers would differ with you. On the other hand, I read today that the new GM is about to hire 600-plus workers back to the Flint plant. Still, I think long-term prognosis is dubious at best.
Why did GE get TARP money? WHY? They aren't a bank. Weren't one either. WUDDUPWIDDAT oh wise one who KNOWS and unnerstans all t'ingz Zocializt?
um, ever hear of an entity called GE Capital? They were a mortgage lender, and provider of financial services beyond that. Essentially, they were a bank, with GE corp being the holding company that owned them. In other words, big mortgage lender, large number of financial services, high risk to investors, TARP funds.
Bear in mind, Wullie, that I was less than enthusiastic when Bush started the TARP program, and when Obama's people wrote up the guidelines for ongoing management of it, but after all was said and done, it helped stabilize the liquidity of the nation's economy, and was a great deal for the taxpayers. A fabulous deal, actually, if no money had been given to AIG.
...would have the Chinese owning all the dirt from sea to shining sea and farming it for them whilst getting fed shit (and asking for a second helping with a big smile) in two generations. We're headed that way now.
agreed, and it is just the ideas, or lack thereof, that you bring to the table here that would get us to that point quicker. Once again, where the feck are your ideas? Who would you put in charge of developing a long term development strategy? You're coming up really empty here, dude......help us out with your keen insight.
Slick? Is there anything this administration has done that you didn't like or think "kosher"?
yup, they haven't closed down Guantanamo, also they've maintained Shrub's 'Patriot Act' policies that run counter to the Constitution and they did a piss-poor job of explaining how getting a grip on healthcare costs is essential to developing a plan to control the deficit. Those are the big items, and I have a ton of little beefs. Still, the overall picture, as I see it, is that Obama understands two critical issues better than ANY politician on the National scene. First, he understands that ideological stupidity has cost the nation valuable time in addressing critical problems. Second, he understands that the economic problems of the nation are systemic, and can only be addressed with a LONG-TERM change in our infrastucture, industries and a committment to the education of our young people. Until I see someone else with some sort of grip, someone willing to put aside the idiotic left/right bullshit, calling moderates 'communists', attacking the other party without compromise, someone with a long-term plan to get our nation back to being a world-wide industrial force, the man has my vote. Polling tends to show that a whole lot of other people feel the same way.
