I made a comparison to Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans and the Police Dept. in regard to a break down in infrastructure and what happens....here, you see it below:
With Police Absent, Egyptians Arm Themselves to Protect Neighborhoods
CAIRO -- When Egypt's police melted from the streets of Cairo this weekend, the people stepped in.
Civilians armed with knives, axes, golf clubs, firebombs, metal bars and makeshift spears watched over many neighborhoods in the sprawling capital of 18 million this weekend, defending their families and homes against widespread looting and lawlessness.
The thugs had exploited the chaos created by the largest anti-government protests in decades and the military failed to fill the vacuum left by police.
On Saturday, the army sent out an appeal for citizens to help.

be careful, Pud, and read up on all sides of this one. It turns out that many of the looters and 'thugs' who have been apprehended to date(including a group of ten attempting to loot the National museum) have been carrying police ID. And, yes, now that you mention it, there ARE similarities to Katrina, but not quite the ones you wish to portray......

"in regard to a break down in infrastructure and what happens"
That's what I said...and that's what we are seeing....and more yet to come....

something that relates to a LOT of threads dating back to years before you arrived here: This is a glimpse of what happens when rich and poor grow too far separated. A situation, I'll hasten to add, that the US is heading towards at an alarming rate. Couldn't happen here? No such huge divide? Check out how the incomes for the past 4 years for the top 5% of US households(in terms of wealth) have fared and compare to the countless stories you might hear regularly about folks falling further and further behind. Now, extrapolate for about 10 more years. It CAN happen here, and we've set our economy up in a way that ensures it WILL happen, if things don't get changed.

I'll put it it simplistic terms...When your infrastructure hauls ass? Ya better be capable of taking care of yer own ass.
Further, if ya live in a densely populated area? Kiss yer ass goodbye....

are you offering this as some sort of vision of the US, circa 2025?

Actually, circa anytime to include the present to the future....
Infrastructure in our country is a damn fragile thing.
As proven in New Orleans, the governments ability to deal with it, when it fails.
Multiply that about a thousand times and the results are the same.
The mere thought of any of this oughta scare the living daylights out of folks...
Sad thing is? Less than 1/10th of one percent are capable of surviving, in this country,
for more, than two years.

It's sad to see any citizen of this country simply resigned to the reality that we should all let the place go to shit and then work on our survival skills. Guess what, Pud? Things get that bad, don't worry, someone or group of someones will gladly swoop in and pick the carcass. Try surviving that shit, because, as I said in another thread, talk is cheap. Real cheap.

I don't expect to survive it.....I will do all that I can to thin out the problems, so that my children will
have a better chance to survive....that is all us "old" folks can do for our families....think about it...in depth...
it's all you can do for them too. There will be no immediate restoration of infrastructure or law and there
will be no resources. No conveyances after the first month and no survivable ability to use a conveyance,
other than your feet...No potable or limited water, No food, No Health Insurance and nobody to call.
Ugly beyond most folks ability to comprehend....it will take many years to restore anything resembling infrastructure...
I hope it never happens...I know it can.
