This is what happens to great cities when unions run rampant, politicians are crooked and the left is allowed to remain in power. It breaks my heart, places in America shouldn't have this happen to them.

Packard destroyed by a global economy?
Truth lies in between. Unions choked the smaller auto manufacturers
one by one. Packard died by a typical combination of bad decisions etc., not just Unions.
We need to be more protectionist, Unions need to be less greedy and protect
the working members from themselves.
Truth lies in the middle, we need to tax the shit out of imports and protect
our manufacturing.

Such a protectionist attitude would destroy America faster than any current or past president could. It is amazing that so many people, especially on the far right, still apply solutions from many decades ago which proved to be not working even back then to modern complex problems.
They do it in terms of international conflict, where the reflex is always get out the military and whoop the brown peoples asses and they do it concerning economics.
Some fresh thinking is necessary in the modern world.

I maintain hope, but you may be correct. At the very least, they won't realize that they are dealing with a changed world until it is FAR too late. C'est la vie, every empire has its day.
