Solyndra: Hiding Something?

Post by Pudfark »

Republicans are questioning why top execs from now-bankrupt solar firm will plead the Fifth at House hearing into how the company still went broke after receiving nearly $530 million in federal loans.

Executives with the bankrupt solar energy firm at the heart of a widening federal controversy plan to plead the Fifth when they head to Capitol Hill for a hearing Friday.
A statement Tuesday from California-based Solyndra said CEO Brian Harrison and Chief Financial Officer Bill Stover have informed members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee that they will not be able to provide "substantive answers" to lawmakers' questions due to the ongoing Justice Department probe.
"Present circumstances require both gentlemen to exercise their Fifth Amendment rights in the face of questioning that might occur," the company said.

Republican committee leaders blasted Solyndra executives for "breaking an agreement to voluntarily testify."
"Who exactly are Solyndra's executive trying to protect and what are they trying to hide?" said Reps. Fred Upton, chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee, and Cliff Stearns, chairman of the Investigations Subcommittee.

clearly, Pud, you either didn't read or didn't comprehend my update on the Virginia solar project. Right now, solar(a technology largely invented in the US) is being controlled by China to the tune of a 93% market share.
In industry after industry, the story is the same. If you ever wish to see the US become a manufacturer, and thus a jobs hub, again, the government has to subsidize key industries HEAVILY. The stimulus package of 2009 put a grand total of 6 Billion dollars into solar, including Solyndra's cut. Most all of the companies on the receiving end are struggling, more than just one has folded. As long as the naysayers and 'small government' loons keep harping on the difficulties and failures, the nation itself is doomed.

Totally agree with ya Rugg... :D

However, ya gotta unnerstan where Slick is coming from....whut he's a sayin is sumpin like this:

"You rubes don't get it...American industry is not capable of competing in the world markets...
Our labor, over head costs are simply to high....Therefore, the American Taxpayer must subsidize
these costs...You people are far to stupid to understand? The cost of Government Regulation and fair wages
and benefits for our union friends, not to mention, applying any type of increased tariff could damage our position in the Global Economy. Besides all of that, you Rubes have never understood? You have to spend money to make money.

American industry isn't capable of competing with countries that simulate capitalism but their business are government run and controlled. Along w/their currency. (China). So yeah, Slick is correct in that aspect. Playing field isn't level but tariffs would be the best thing and then when there are two competing items roughly the same cost with one having a tariff, then it will have to be as good as the one built here. Ya see, China is manipulating their side, time to do the same on our side. I would love to be able to buy a compressor built in the U.S. that's worth a damn. Or spray equipment. Or just about anything.

yes, that too, as a bridge between the present state of manufacturing and the hoped-for future. It will be a hard pill to swallow for the American public that EVERYTHING is going to cost substantially more money, except for food and a handful of other goods.

what Pud is trying to say is that we run our manufacturing sector like this: pollute the hell out of everything and bring back sweatshops. Is that the America anyone wants?

Shock and Amazement.... :o
The Chinese Business Plan.....

Also known as?
We pay the Chinese to Pollute, while we go "green"....
We pay the Chinese to work, while we don't....
We borrow money from the Chinese, that we can't/won't repay....

The American Business Plan?
We steal from each other,
while we go down the drain.

Everything costs more anyway. Take the tariff money, help start American business and prices will come back down to realistic levels. What are we supposed to do? Let the chinks continue on with what they're doing? Their whole plan is to destroy our economy.
