NICE: Prostate cancer drug too costly for NHS

A drug that can extend the life of men with advanced prostate cancer by more than three months has provisionally been rejected for NHS use.

The health watchdog for England and Wales says the drug's benefits are not enough to justify the price the NHS has been asked to pay.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer to affect men in the UK.

Each year 37,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer, and more than 10,000 die from it.

I live in a country with socialized health care and if you asked me to approve a drug that can extend a life by 4 months....but at a cost of $3000 per month. And 50 thousand people are going to want it...every year.
I'd vote against it too.

Well......sigh......there goes any argument for social economic equality....ya think?
However, R_D? With your logic? Sense of fair play and so forth? Perhaps, the drug should be
destroyed, made illegal, in fairness to all? Ya know, that leads me to think? Maybe, following your lead?
Folks what are judged to be terminal? Shouldn't be fed or medicated? Ya know, cuz that shit costs money.... Maybe, somebody just oughta put a pillow over their head....just taking yer ball and running with it R_D....

A what if question? I get my PSA test every year....very low number for me...hope the same for everybody here.
Had a friend who died from Prostate Cancer about 15 years ago, it was not discovered/undiagnosed and to late to treat....it was an ugly business.
I also have had other friends diagnosed with it, had it treated and none are having any further problems with it.

@Both of Y'all.....If you're sixty years of age or older? Are diagnosed with Prostate Cancer? What will the NHS do for ya?

Fundamental point is the same as RD tried to make as well. That NHS didn't cover the stuff:
1. Doesn't mean you cannot get it, you just have to pay out of pocket.
2. Likely, the same reality is what you get in the US system.....except, you likely have to pay more because out
pharmaceutical prices are inflated
3. In no way shows that the British model is inferior to the US. It's all HEALTH INSURANCE, no matter who the ultimate
guarantor of the payments is.

sure you do, in a sense. The rules, as established by the British government are your 'policy'. Oh, and the problems you added
with waiting? Isn't that a technical issue and not, in any way, a given with that model of single payer health coverage?

Ya know? Is it really fair that folks with more money?
Should be "treated" better than those without?
