NYC cops at their finest. When that story first broke(without details of who shot who), my wife asked aloud how many rounds the NYC police unloaded at the guy, since they put 45 rounds a few years back into some poor fellow reaching for his wallet.

You got to wonder how they could shoot that many people? Are they just firing blindly or something?

yup, pretty much. Add in pedestrian flow in midtown Manhattan at 9 am to the mix.

"You get what you pay for and you get what you train for"

Another example of "cost savings" and P.C.

Can't disagree with the other thoughts posted.

Back in the day, 35 years ago, in police shootings, the average for shots fired to shots that hit, was one out of seven. That was in the days when the majority of the cops carried 6 shot revolvers. Now, most of them carry auto's with 13 or more rounds. Lot's more shots fired and probably fewer hits. Panic and poor training being the primary reasons. So here comes another batch of rules and regulations instead of
training...cuz rules and regs is cheap.

Well even with poor or even no training, what sane people would start shooting semi-randomly in a crowded place?

(except NY cops obviously)

Training/experience is supposed to be the substitute for panic.
From a little additional reading on this subject, it seems (to me),
that the two officers involved had little choice in the matter.

Had they failed to fire, they would have been killed and possibly others.
It's just a shit situation. Nobody likes it and things of that nature, will
happen again. The suspect could have had a knife or other type weapon,
the results still most likely, the same.

Seems like folks forget or are not aware, that sometimes situations begin and
end in a few seconds. Meaning, little or no time to figure things out and react.
My understanding is that this incident is on "video" and it would be interesting
to view it, should it become available.

Found a link to the actual shooting...gonna have to scroll down a bit to get it...
Quality is somewhat poor...but it is view able and does portray the events.

As I guessed earlier...the cops had no choice, IMHO.
