A Complete Waste of Space

well, those who were fearful enough of this technology could sure beat it easily. Basing something on subcutaneous veinous patterns could be easily thrown haywire with an exacto knife. Painful? Yes, but completely effective.

What ever it takes to beat the system...
There is already, another system in place....AFIS.

It not only I.D.'s folks....it assigns them a unique identity number. Something,
that's never been done before...and, it's all been on the "down low"....

"The Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System, or IAFIS, is a national fingerprint and criminal history system that responds to requests 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to help our local, state, and federal partners—and our own investigators—solve and prevent crime and catch criminals and terrorists. IAFIS provides automated fingerprint search capabilities, latent search capability, electronic image storage, and electronic exchange of fingerprints and responses.

What is included in IAFIS: Not only fingerprints, but corresponding criminal histories; mug shots; scars and tattoo photos; physical characteristics like height, weight, and hair and eye color; and aliases. The system also includes civil fingerprints, mostly of individuals who have served or are serving in the U.S. military or have been or are employed by the federal government. The fingerprints and criminal history information are submitted voluntarily by state, local, and federal law enforcement agencies."

Note, Pud, the highlighted parts......thus, to use it universally, as, for example, a means to ID voters, you have no database of folks who have no criminal record, have no employment history with the government, or came here from many foreign nations without a database. Thus, you would have to both identify who ISN'T in the database, with extreme precision and THEN go out, locate and fingerprint them, and enter them into the system. Any guess on your part as to: 1) how much that would cost and 2) how well-received it would be on the part of citizenry in the US?

You're right, folks would raise hell, if they were aware....they aren't.
The Federal Government started the AFIS program about thirty years ago...very quietly....their disguise was to use it as you mentioned above. Their intent was to assign (quietly) everybody a "unique identifying number". Why? Well, you could apply one of Nic's theories...or? You could apply some common sense...and you will figure it out rather quickly. By the way, a SSN is not considered a "unique number"
and by law (Fed), "folks" can't run those numbers and get any information.

Further....If ya have a "State I.D. card....you probably have an AFIS number for the reasons listed above.

I have a friend who was the head of Public Safety(state cops,etc) in a New England state. Yes, he located me via name and PA drivers
license info, but no fingerprints on me.

He would have to run you through the AFIS system...not by name or number
Try that....

AFIS is a stand alone type system.
Names don't mean anything in that system, the assigned numbers do.

Texas uses a fingerprint system for Driver's License and State I.D.
Folks here...would be in it.

Seems unusual that Pa. would not take a finger print?
Must be to much DNA on them...
