what a story of extreme personal heroics. But, the real 'wow' moment for me was reading about the heat extremes you all are seeing. 120 plus degrees Farenheit?? Geez, that makes Arizona in August look chilly by comparison. Now, are any of you folks possibly reconsidering whether or not Global Warming is real?? Throw in a snowless winter in Chicago, droughts in the Midwest corn belt last year, and for those of us who fly-fish(BUZZ, ya out there?), we have been seeing insects hatch(temp dependant) around 3 weeks earlier for the last 5 years than has been the case for the past century.

Well Darkhorse...the only reason Slick likes to talk about "Global Warming"?
It makes his panties damp. :P

By the way Slick, saving yer own ass ain't personally heroic in my book..it's just what's necessary.

Ah...then by your standards?
There's a lot of heroes...
By mine, a lot of lucky dumb asses and damned few heroes.
Same book, different page.

WTF ?

That family, mostly kids, had to take to the sea to get away from the flames as there was no where else to go. The heroics are in the fact that they did it together and sent pictures to people so their peril was made obvious, meantime they survived by taking the best option and staying together. I'd say that was clear thinking in a dangerous situation and pretty fucking heroic too.

In one of the pics a boy of about 8 or 9 is looking calm with his shades on while the younger one's are crying. I would assume that in a situation like that he is being heroic and by his demeanour, trying to keep the younger ones calm by example. That kid is a hero to me.

They were very fortunate to have an obvious out, that anyone instinctively would have taken. A horrifying event, but they didn't survive by heroic action. Stars on the fridge for all.

Agreed Barfly.
Some folks around here...just have to wring out their "snot rag" more often.

Common sense ain't heroic. It's commendable.
Apparently they had some. I'm glad.

Though I can understand, those lacking in common sense?
Finding it heroic.
I just don't agree with'em.

By that standard...when I retired?
I'd a looked like a Mexican General....

Pass the donuts..... ;)

Barfly/Pud.

What do you guys class as heroic then?

If it's not a family group, young kids etc, thinking their way out of a shitty situation as they did, controlling their fear and acting logical. Instead of running around in a blind panic. What do you guys class as heroic?

Soldiers and Cops and Firemen etc sign up for stuff, civilians don't. But I'll bet the pair of you have called those folks heroic a few times.

My "snot rag" as it happens is fine Pud. I can state categorically that I've never been a coward in any way whatsoever in my life. I've avoided stuff when it makes sense to, I've also put myself in danger to help other people many times, and I'm not a soldier or a cop or a fireman. I'm also not an asshole who can't see the bravery that those kids had by keeping it together in such a dangerous situation. I commend them from my heart. As to Barfly and you, I worry about your lack of empathy for normal people being brave in horrendous situations.

Maybe you two are like, the toughest, hardest motherfuckers out there, I doubt it though. I do think you are a pair of ballsacks who like to act like you are fucking Jedi's, but in real life are probably a pair of Wookies.

If I'm wrong, I'll apologise, I'm basing my opinion on the fact that people I have met who are brave, tend not to piss on normal people like you pair of scrotums have.

Oh and I meant to say, you fucking pair of assholes, get it fucking right up yies!

No offense Soapy...here's my definition of an asshole:
It's a fella who changes his mind and agrees with you and then calls you an asshole. Check out the "RED" words.
