"Bear and Dragon" might be a better canditate...
...in a war between R and C, one US F-15 squadron with a little help from a single sub just sinks the C from the face of the earth. During the morning.
The spy part of the book (first 600 pages or so) was a decent read, but the "war" part ...pffff.
