OBAMA UNVEILS $7 BILLION 'POWER AFRICA' ELECTRICITY PLAN
President Barack Obama unveiled his “Power Africa” program on Sunday that will spent $7 billion in U.S. taxpayer money to fund a sub-Saharan Africa electricity program that will also develop geothermal, hydro, wind, and solar power.
The International Energy Agency says achieving universal electricity access to sub-Saharan Africa by 2030 would require $300 billion.
Obama said his plan is meant to bring “light where there is currently darkness.”

It's gonna take more than a 40 watt light bulb for Obama to illuminate his mental journey down the "hershey highway". Maybe somebody will give him some "Texas Tea" to ease the trip?

well, the usual disrespect for the man and office aside, where is this anything short of a strong idea for the US economy?

Probably becuase China owns Africa so ill bet that half the funds ends up wasted with sorruption the other half ends up in china, and ive been saying it for years the best way to help Africa is to stop aid as long as they get by on handouts they wont do much to help themselves

but Fats, the reality is that China isn't just doing 'handouts', and if China completely gets left to control the vast resources until it's too late, we all could be in a bind.

So...we/Americans are gonna be the "chineese middle man" and resell solar panels?
We really have 7 billion bucks to throw away during the period of OBama sequestration?
What do 20 f-16s and two hundred Abrams tanks have to do with "electrical power"?
Really, what/who is gonna benefit in America by this? Other than a few chosen Obama supporters who contributed a few million dollars to his campaign....and now in return can expect hundreds of millions of dollars in "kickbacks" from this "wonderful" offer and all paid for by the poor folks in this country....especially those dependent on their "oil furnaces"....

given that the main thrust of the initiative was around US industries providing power infrastructure(not reselling Chinese products), like building the grid, and development of African natural gas deposits, where, Pud, do you get these goofy assertions, other than the usual, boring and predictable knee-jerk 'Obama Bad' mantra?

It's pretty much like this Slick.....7 billion,
could be better spent on our own needs.
Such as reinstating the White House Tours for kids....especially, the poor kids.
However, it is refreshing that you now acknowledge "Natural Gas" over "wind" and solar.
When are ya gonna get on the wagon and convert yer furnaces?

White House tours that were cancelled are largely perks for connected people, not school trips. And to equate those closures with the long-term economic benefits of increased business in Africa is borderline nutso.
