A Complete Waste of Space

....this will shock Ruggie, but I'm all for it. If the good people of Arizona wish that to be their set of rules, I see nothing that overrides or challenges actual US law there. Now, if folks want to boycott, fine. That's their right as well, but challenging the law is court seems like a waste of time, and a financial burden on the state for no good end.
I just watched a CNN interview with a sheriff from one of the border counties. He's trying to deal with drug gangs with a staff of 215. His county is the size of the State of Connectict. I'll be the first to agree that we ought to consider serious Federal action against those cartels, but lots of luck waiting for that option, with the military already stretched thin. So, for Ruggie and all Arizonans, I sympathise with your issues. You have a whole different level of 'immigration' issues from most of the rest of us. You have a border crisis, and, it really ought to be your Federal government who covers your collective butts. I know a lot of you all like to whine about the Federal Government, but 'providing for the Common Defense' seem to be words I recall from Civics class.......

now, if we could just find a populace with the personal integrity to agree to pay for this sort of stuff......

the Fed challenge will fail. they are challenging on the basis of the Supremacy law. that Federal trumps state law. the only problem with that is this law does not contradict federal law. in fact it mimics the federal law.

"It basically gives the state a mechanism to enforce federal law, to turn over people police have a reasonable suspicion to believe may be illegal over to the feds. The Supremacy Clause only comes into play when a state law is “contrary” to a federal law or the Constitution. And courts have ruled that the states have “concurrent authority” when state law only mimics federal law. -- Five federal appeals courts have applied this in context of illegal aliens, upholding states’ rights to arrest illegals.

It is also being reported that the other ground for the legal challenge is racial profiling but the Arizona law specifically prohibits that. It states that the police officers must have a "legal" reason for stopping a person before questioning.

Finally, a 2002 memo from the Department of Justice concluded that state police have “inherent power” to arrest undocumented immigrant for violating federal law. That memo will come back to haunt them now."

if I was Arizona I would counter sue the Fed's for failing to enforce said law and to secure our borders.

I'm not sure that the legal whizzes couldn't find that 2002 memo to be sort of 'apples and oranges', but still, AZ's law doesn't overrule any national law that I'm aware of. It simply deals with state enforcement practice.

AZ's law is similar to Fed law. Cops can't stop someone for driving while "brown". As for the border crisis, I've been telling you this shit has been going on for over a year Slick. Only since it's hit mainstream news do you believe me....................If we don't stop this on the border then it will travel to non-border states. Just cuz you don't live here Slick doesn't mean it doesn't affect you. Unless you think that dead cops whether they're state or fed is no big deal. Or citizens. Frankly, I took it personal with 9/11. I didn't know anyone in those towers but they were Americans. My countrymen/women. I don't give a shit what color they were or what their political affiliations were.

The border crisis is every bit about securing this country from terrorism as anything else the Feds are doing.

WHY doesn't the FED sue Rhode Island too?

They deport EVERY illegal they encounter that requires police intervention. INCLUDING traffic stops. No ID? Have a nice ride back to wherever.
