I know, I know.....we have a Sports Forum. Still, no one but DKoor and Fatman ever read it, so why bother posting this thought there?
Anyhow, I watch the World Cup final game. I mean, all you furriners watch and love the sport of soccer(football), and I figure the least I can do is try, once every 4 years to appreciate it. As an American, it is difficult, at best. Really, we lead busy lives over here and two and one half hours of men running around in shorts, with the score still a stirring 0-0? Come on! At least, had there been more scoring chances or something like them, it might have been acceptable. Now, at least, congrats to Spain for becoming the first World Cup winner who proved incapable of scoring two goals against anyone....
The acting, as ever, was first rate. It is amazing how fast a man, seemingly near death on the pitch until the officials notice him and penalize the opposition, can recover. How stupid does one have to be to get the job of FIFA official? Some of those guys out there were acting as transparently as college theater majors and the refs still react on cue with an infraction call. Then, at the other extreme, we get one fellow planting both sets of cleats into the opponent's chest(a rugged approach we Americans applaud) acting shocked that a yellow card would be considered. The Dutch fellow seemed to be waiting for the victim to come to and apologize for interfering with his feet.
All in all, I still can't find the appeal, but content myself with the knowledge that I've done my part for World Understanding. At least until 2014, when I think I promised to visit Brazil....... ;)

Soccer is irrelevant. Especially if you're an American, a man and not half a fag.

Slick you know what the ultimate irony is?

Spain is soo much better team than any other that showed on that World Cup, they all knew it even before games started that is why they all played in formation 1-10 (1 goalkeeper 10 defenders  ).

I mean seriously... in their first game Spaniards got beaten by Switzerland, really pathetic result.
Whole game Spain literally pinned them down on their half and in one rare ocassion when they lurked on Spain side of the pitch Swiss team scored...

Of course if they all played like they should versus Spain, a normal football or football or god forbid in attacking formations games would end with at least 3 balls in their net.

When you have well over 60% possession (Spain - on regular basis), in soccer that means that you own your oppo.

Also worth to mention that they have something like 30-2 (victory-defeat) in the last 2 years or so, one of that defeats they suffered vs US team some time ago.
Brutal stat.

also, experts:
of the 4 games I watched at least part of, the ground seemed wet in 3 of them. Wouldn't that keep scoring down, and enchance any defense-happy strategies?

+1

Also noteworthy is the fact that the ball gets somehow erratic trajectory on speeds above 72kph... that means nearly every more powerful shot is going to have erratic trajectory.

Way to go! They fooled the goalkeepers however they fooled the shooters too, excellent work  :geek: .
