Re: Rasmussen says 65% want illegals gone
so what? The citizens would have polled the same way(or worse) about the Irish, the Italians, the Jews, the Eastern Europeans, the Chinese. Doesn't make it right, or even vaguely American. Thank goodness the founders had the good sense to set up a government that tries to do the right thing, not the popular thing.

So, the government does not have to follow the law? They should be guided by what? Public opinion does not count? Next thing, it will be the vote....right?

Slick, you did read the 10 pages of the Arizona law regarding the illegals didn't you? It mirrors Federal law which the government is refusing to uphold.
The key word is LAW.

I stated here, in another thread, that(as far as my limited legal expertise can tell) it's perfectly legal. Dimwitted and shortsighted, perhaps, but legal, and if the citizens of Arizona want it, so be it. I also wrote here, before you forget and post otherwise, that I think its wrong and a waste of money for the Feds to argue it. When the Mexican Americans that live in your state start to boycott businesses, and tourists start to look elsewhere, that's their right too. America is all about rights.

oh, and Ruggie.....I read it, all of it. In no way does it mirror Federal Law(the current law from the 1960's).
It does state a local enforcement policy pursuant to that law.

Well, then....what's the problem? I bet most of y'all don't know that local, county and state law enforcement officers are sworn to uphold federal law and that means enforce it. What the problem is? The Fed's don't hold up their end.....and obviously, when it comes to immigration. Wonder what would happen? If the Non-Fed officers quit enforcing or assisting in the enforcement of Federal Law?callmeslick wrote:oh, and Ruggie.....I read it, all of it. Old Pudfark sez: " the outcome of that...would be like putting your shoes on the wrong feet... "

what part of my saying, repeatedly, that I have no problem with the law haven't you read and been able to comprehend? You need glasses, or just grey matter?Pudfark wrote:Well, then....what's the problem?callmeslick wrote:oh, and Ruggie.....I read it, all of it. you're probably correct, but I recall a conversation I had once with an Orleans Parish mounted cop. I was hanging in the French Quarter, waiting for an artist buddy to meet me for a serious evening of NOLA festivities. I was chatting with the cop, just killing time, and asked him about the little stores everywhere selling nitrous oxide cartridges by the case. My question: "Isn't is against Federal law to sell nitrous without a user's permit(generally restaurant use for the cartridges)? His answer: "Son, I enforce parish law, I ain't much worried about Federal law". We both laughed.I bet most of y'all don't know that local, county and state law enforcement officers are sworn to uphold federal law and that means enforce it. What the problem is?
