good to see....

Post by callmeslick »

....we're not all nuts in this nation. Recent CNN/Opinion Dynamics polling showed:

Eighty-one percent of people questioned in the poll say they support creating a program that would allow illegal immigrants already living in the U.S. for a number of years to stay here and apply to legally remain in this country permanently if they had a job and paid back taxes, with 19 percent opposed to such a plan.

I would not be un-opposed to this.

PROVIDED

1.they have been in the country at least 10 years, and I dont care if they have an Anchor baby.
2.they have had steady employment over that time period. show me you can contribute to this society
3.they pay any back taxes owed.
4.they have no criminal records. not even a parking ticket
5.they take and pass a US citizenship test just like those that have put out the effort to come here legally.
6.they take mandatory ENGLISH classes

How about throwing a link out.....and when was the poll taken? Where? Was it at a La Raza meeting?

July 16-22, 2010
Where? Was it at a La Raza meeting?
um, no. Actually, Hispanic breakdown was 76-24, Blacks around 80-20, and Whites around 90-10 in favor.
Oh, and the poll was 1800 or so Adult American citizens. Links? Just go to CNN.com.

I doubt that.

edited, for the truly stupid, who have to ask for links after they've already been posted.

problem is, stats lie

could easily see a poll that shows opposite results, depends where, when, and how the sampling is conducted, including profiling, and suggestion, among others

actually, this question polls pretty consistently over time. CNN's Opinion Dyamics has tracked it at about the same levels, statistically for a couple years, at least. OD does a pretty good job of sampling in my experience.
Key to the results are the caveats about working and taxes. Most polls that throw that in come out about 80-20 in favor, consistently. Cuda's detailed caveats reflect most of us.

agree with all of these except #5. Other immigrants don't HAVE to apply for citizenship to work here.
Note: I see this one struck Daii as well. Not bad for a Canuck. :P

CNN.com, Rube. It's not all that obscure, unless one is truly as dumb as a brick. How many times do you want me to post it?
