Oopsies, my mistaken belief that you might have a moment of unselfish clarity, when it pertains to the safety and health of all.callmeslick wrote:Pud, your thinking on this one is refreshingly sound. However, it isn't as simple as you or I might wish. Every state has different laws. Here in PA, for instance it is near-impossible to commit someone until they demonstrate to be a 'clear and imminent danger to themself or others'. By which time, it is often too late. I have worked a long time, and spent a fair bit of coin trying to rectify this, due to a tragic event in my wife's family decades back. Until a more enlightened method emerges of treating the mentally ill, not only will tragedies like this recent shooting continue, the lives of thousands of seriously ill people will be tragic on a daily basis. Ultimately, in a hundred different ways, society pays for this failure.
ok, let's just write this part off as the meds kicking in. OK?Pudfark wrote:Oopsies, my mistaken belief that you might have a moment of unselfish clarity, when it pertains to the safety and health of all.
I think where I made my mistake? Was your stance on Federal Health Care and your defiant attitude that we all have some sort
of shared responsibility for each other....my bad, I suppose, for such a gross misunderstanding.
How we do it now:I am sorta hung up on that "Until a more enlightened method emerges of treating the mentally ill" ? What do you specifically mean by that?
I thought about that statement and truthfully, it sounds like gibberish to me.....
nice to know you aren't living around either of my residences, as you sound like a freaking loon in some sense yourself. At least, by your own description, you are a happy loon.It seems your "solution" to the problem is to do nothing further about it.....just take the lumps as they come...and "society pays for this failure".
I'm down with that...I don't wear a target on my back anymore...I live way out in the country...I don't go to any large organized events...pretty much,
I hang around the homestead, fish and throw a bag of lime in the shitter from time to time.....life's good and it ain't my problem......any more.
So, if you don't live similar to me....well, it's your problem....your solution....and your consequences.....
see my answer above, and trust me, you would stand and embarrass yourself before any victim to whom you presented the above crap. What is of interest to me is this......
I would stand before the families most affected by this tragedy...and read to them what I have written in this thread.
My question to you, Slick? Would you do the same?
old Slick sez, those who find politics in what I've written regarding mental illness understand neither politics nor mental illness. Why not skip the politics for a change? Throw something out on the table that is usable and unbiased....like your true opinion/thoughts.
I would be willing to bet, if you did this...without bringing politics in to it...nobody would feel compelled to take a "cheap shot" at you.....I didn't.
Old Pudfark sez: " ditto "
No need for the explain....I will warmly embrace your previously stated solutions to the problem....apply them diligently.....as, I am sure others will.callmeslick wrote:wow, Pud, your lack of understanding of simple English is staggering. At no time did I suggest that nothing be done. And yes, I would put my words, and have put those very words, before victims, legislators, mental health professionals and insurance executives. Those, and a lot more. How we handle mental health in this nation is a fucking disgrace. And it isn't just because some awful violent acts occur. It's the effect on a lot of lives, of victims, of families of the mentally ill, of those with mental diseases, of society as a whole.
What the feck you are going on about is beyond me. Really. I thought you had a clue, now I wonder. Could someone out there explain to Pud what I was saying above?
it is a new creation that I've been participating in that strives to bring together practical, common sense people of any or no political affiliation in a nationwide effort to change the way government is run and political discourse is conducted. It might fail miserably, but something has to be tried. We have some heavy hitters on board, I'm hoping for some real household names soon. PM me if you would like information, although google to the .org link will do fine, and I don't really need extra participation points. My membership is pretty solid.CUDA wrote:"Have you heard of the No Labels movement?"
